Wednesday, March 10th, 2010, the Arizona Pro DJs team headed out to the beautiful Venue of Scottsdale for the Red Bull Thre3 Style DJ tournament (yeah, we got our tongues tied saying it too). Sadly, Arizona Pro DJs was not featured in the tournament, but rather, the team went to scope out some new talent and take a break from all the prom planning we have been doing lately.
What is the Red Bull Thre3 Style? Basically, it’s the chance for some of the best DJs in the entire state of Arizona, to show their stuff and prove they are the best of the best. Six different DJs, each playing a 15 minute set with at least 3 different genres of music. Judges rated the DJs on their skills and crowd rocking ability. There were four judges including DJ Jazzy Jeff, himself! All the DJs were very talented and showed they had some jaw dropping skills. The DJs included in the battle were M2, Tricky T, DJ Nameless, Cutswell, DJ Sonny, Robby Rob, Death to the Throne and D-JR. Each DJ played a unique set and showed off their best mixing and scratching skills. Songs played ranged from your classic hip-hop to some of the newest club bangers and also some oldies and even some classic rock tracks. The crowd favorite was D-JR and the venue was filled with people chanting his name. I can still remember those three letters repeating in my head. D-J-R… D-J-R… D-J… you get the point.

However, there had to be a winner. That winner turned out to be D-JR (We sort of gave it away, huh?). Followed by Death to the Throne in second place, and Robby Rob in third. The winner of this tournament, D-JR, won $1,000 and the opportunity to represent Arizona in the national Thre3 Style competition. If he wins at nationals, he will move on and compete at the international level! Go Arizona!
After they announced the winner, our faces were rocked by DJ Jazzy Jeff performing a special set to end the night. Playing some classic tracks that brought us back to our childhood, we felt a certain.. nostalgia in the air. After a long night of dancing, intense yelling of D-JR, and drinking too much Red Bull, our team was exhausted. We went to bed, and got ready for another long day of planning parties (hey! It’s not like we ONLY go to the parties).
